Genesis 1: the firmament chapter
Thanksgiving Hymn preserves ancient meaning of 'raqia'
A Psalm of David
The heavens declare the glory of God:
and the earth is telling the work of his hands.
Day unto day utters speech,
night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech or words,
their voice has not been heard,
Yet their message goes out through all the earth,
and their sayings to the ends of the world.
...
They go forth from one end of heaven to the other,
and no one is hidden from His truth.
The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul:
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple.
The statutes of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart:
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever:
the judgments of the Lord are true,
all of them together are righteous.
They are more to be desired than gold,
Yes, than much fine gold:
They are sweeter than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned;
And in keeping them there is great reward.
But who can understand his errors?
Cleanse me from secret faults.
And keep back your servant from presumptuous sins;
Let them not rule over me,
Then shall I be blameless,
and I shall be innocent of great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation
of my heart always be pleasing to you,
O Lord my strength and my redeemer.
