A Human Figure in Quartzite A human-like figure facing left can be seen by some people, in the colorful natural patterns on the surface of a block of white quartzite wedged in a crevice, shown in the photo at the right. The colorful patterns probably consist of deposits of the mineral hematite, which derives its name from its blood-like appearance. The location is a remote quartzite ridge in Killarney Park, Ontario, Canada [46°2.503' N, 81° 25.951' W]. Below is a view of the rock crevice. ![]() |
